Charles Hyder was sent by President Lyndon Johnson to the Caribbean Island of Hispaniola with 82nd Airborne Division to stop the aggression of communism in the country of Dominican Republic. The other end of this island was Haiti. It was in this setting that E. Charles Hyder witnessed suffering and poverty greater than he could imagine. He saw Haitian families brought over the mountain from their country to work in the sugar cane fields. He learned that Haiti was the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

get involved What if it is was your child who had nothing to eat, no clothes to wear, no medical treatment, and you had no hope of getting these things for them? Would your prayer not be that God would send somebody to  alleviate the pain and the suffering of an empty stomach, a tooth ache, a parasite infestation so bad that worms are coming out your child’s nose? We live in the greatest country on the planet earth.

The question might be in your mind, "What can I do?"  Not everyone can leave their job and go to Haiti, but everyone can pray and everyone can give something...
